About

About Aaron Cousins

    • Aaron began practising in 1992 after his father introduced him to hatha yoga. After seeing an iconic image of a greek god look-alike Derek Ireland posing in the Mediteranean sea, Aaron was inspired to learn ashtanga yoga, a dynamic yoga that possessed an almost gymnastic quality.

  • Aaron began teaching Dynamic Yoga in Cardiff in 2003 after completing Teacher Training with Godfrey Devereux, Director of Windfireyoga. Aaron completed British Wheel Teacher Training in 2010 with his current ashtanga yoga teacher and tutor Richard Adamo. Aaron has participated in workshops with Sri K Pattabhi Jois (London), Liz Lark, Richard Adamo, Gingi Lee, Nancy Gilgoff, Andrew Eppler, and retreats with John & Lucy Scott.
  • Over the years Aaron has studied a wide range of disciplines ranging from Ashtanga Yoga, Hatha Yoga, Tai Chi, the martial arts of Karate, Judo, Ju Juitsu, Indian body weight calisthenetics, gymnastics, tumbling, acrobalance and the art of hand balancing.
  • Aaron uses Ashtanga Yoga as his base system but has combined postures outside of the Ashtanga system found in other yoga styles, and has also added a much larger amount of hand balancing from acrobatics into his version of Ashtanga Yoga, which gives s more balanced fusion of strength as well as flexibility into Ashtanga yoga.
  • Aaron’s passion for developing strength in yoga has leas him to research and develop his yoga by seeking out specialist teachers in the acrobatic arts of hand balancing (advanced handstands) and acrobalance (partner balancing)  which brings a much higher level of strength and balancing skills into yoga, alongside the traditional flexibility postures, giving a more rounded approach to yoga posture practise.

I started yoga late in life and will never be as lithe and limber as I would like, however, I find Aaron’s teaching to be wonderfully liberating and he never judges my inabilities but rather encourages me to do what I can. All that is required is focus and trust and it is easy to trust Aaron because of his calm and balanced and strong demeanour; it is obvious he has access to levels beyond the standard yoga teacher. His spiritual sense is evident and his brilliant combining of different yoga practices with his own deep experience means that anyone at any level will benefit from his teaching.
